Reflections from Sam Bennett
  • Space not as intimate - side conversations going on but related to
  • Saw clear connection between 21st century skills and the workshop model
  • Morning modeled workshop, afternoon felt more of a lecture
  • Hearing her a 2nd time made concepts much clearer
  • Some people overwhelmed, different type of thinking, backward design
  • Sam met with Math Coaches to discuss ways to implement Math Workshop
  • Some people felt stuck with content driving instrucruction (e.g., spending 8 weeks on one content area study)
  • "Wow, what a paradigm shift!!" "This isn't the way I think"
  • "This isn't a workshop where we can just sit and get, we have to work today"
  • Discussion about daily schedules, people started to turn away, we can't because we don't have....
  • Challenged people's thinking, which leads to small changes which leads to great changes
